| Exchanging MoU of both side, UKM and PWEHL |
Senior citizens are still able to contribute substantially to the country's education sector through volunteer services at the university or medical research center. It is evidenced by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Association of Senior Citizens Hulu Langat (PWEHL) with The National University of Malaysia (UKM), yesterday.
Dean and Director of the UKM Medical Centre, Professor Dato’ Dr Raymond Azman Ali said the cooperation with the PWEHL has started since 2007 and is now cemented through the MoU so that it is more formal.

"We see the elderly as a valuable asset that can help drive the country's medical and research fields in the long run.
"For example, we train a number of senior citizens to be "standard patient" and assist UKM in conducting clinical examinations for students from the Faculty of Medicine," he said.
He was speaking at a press conference after witnessing the signing of MoU between PWEHL and UKM at UKM Medical Centre yesterday.
UKM was represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor of Industry and Community Partnerships, Professor Dato’ Dr. Saran Kaur Gill and while PWEHL was represented by Mr. President, Muzir Aseral.
Dr. Raymond said, UKM will continue to strengthen cooperation with the local community, especially senior citizens to enrich the field of research, education and services.
"For standard patients, it not only affects the elderly but also requires infants, children, adolescents and adults. "However, for senior citizens, we take the initiative to train them to assist the UKM at the same time provide greater fairness to students who attend an important exam," he said.
He said many interesting activities provided by the UKM to shine up and cheer to senior citizens.
"We respected PWEHL’s vision to create a senior citizen development model that is applicable for all parties. Indeed, UKM were proud to support and be a facilitator in any association activities, as long as it provides the common good, "he said.
